Artist Statement
This design grew from a personal memory of snorkeling in Hawaii, where vibrant coral reefs and brightly colored fish created a dynamic, interconnected underwater world. That experience inspired a broader reflection on the fragility of these vital ecosystems. Threatened by climate change and human activity, coral reefs are disappearing largely out of sight, with profound consequences for marine biodiversity and ocean health. The banner celebrates their vivid beauty and movement while confronting their disappearance, urging viewers to recognize not only what is being lost, but the urgency of protecting what remains.
